My own private thermopylae

In the news recently, a British TV presenter, conservationist and anti-hunting campaigner Chris Packham had his car torched by thugs who oppose his work. It’s a tragic, horrible story, but Packham’s tweet about it caught my eye:

He describes it as “my own private Thermopylae”. This is such a specific phrase that I can only assume it’s a (possibly unconscious) Marathon 2 reference, as I don’t think the phrase exists outside that context. I guess it could be a coincidence. I don’t think Packham plays games (at least, I’ve never heard him reference them).
