In Response To: Scary Marathon? (Godot) : So on this particular night... Halloween... is there are a scary part in
: Ok... there are many WTF moments... like... : Encountering a Hulk on Blaspheme Quarantine... WHEN THERE SHOULDN'T BE ANY
: But what about really scary moments... like... : The crusher room on Defend THIS! for the first time with no hints. : or... one of my favourites... : Accidentally falling into Death Valley... and trying to find a way out... : Cheers
The dreams in Infinity and the story about the man with Durability the mysterious knife, on the run from men in black who stalk him and his girlfriend to the movies in the middle of dinner and she appears to turn into one of them slowly, before cutting to a school for some odd reason. No idea why the knife's original owner died in the street without warning either. The dreams themselves are fun as Hell. While Eat the Path is my favourite, I love the alternate path in Whatever you Please and would love to see how differently Bungie would do it in an MTA remake with better technology, Tomb Raider Anniversary Edition (the cancelled Core Design one) or Black Mesa style. Then the failure levels after that. While it's supposed to be the station creaking and is even called "ship creak" in the sounds file, the screaming sounds I (and others) always interpreted as the W'rkncacnter's roars, since you mostly hear it on the Jjaro station levels even before it breaks loose. While the PID monsters don't appear in such maps until Eternal, nothing is scarier in this instance indeed, and we get to read Durandal's last words as he goes insane. Even Tfear sounds shell shocked, especially in ELOG's Infinity video where Tfear is voiced by the one, the only Civvie 11. (Pro Marathon trilogy plus the rest when, Civvie?) It's worse on the occasions the station is in vacuum too. It kind of makes the end part in Aye Mak Sicur even more of an anticlimax since we didn't even get a crappy PID method for a final boss, just a boring Juggernaut fight in Hanger 96 like the first two failure levels before it. (I go into detail about that in the final part of the Halo SPV3 LP I did) While this may not count due to being a mod, Eternal had scary levels too thanks to the PID monsters, especially the 1.2 versions which look creepy and sound terrifying.
Oops. Same monster, wrong game on that last one.
It's worse in older versions where fusion & the plasma flamethrower (M2 alien gun) don't work on them, such as The Manipulated Dead in the Chapter 3 failure plank. Even moreso because in all versions, The W'rkncacnter itself talks to you in the first terminal and it is NOT happy to see us.
A better name for that map would be "I need TP for my Bunghole".
