Not only is tomorrow Marathon's release day, but it's also the day where back in the year I first played Marathon that we as a species narrowly avoided this:

Though to be fair, as the Mayan calendar doesn't have leap years, the date was off and the end of the world we avoided was actually going to be in July instead and a solar storm instead of the closure of the universe, but Earth was a week away from the strike zone at the time, so it missed. 2012 was incidentally when I played the game pictured above around the same time I first played Marathon as well. And both games alongside Black Mesa's shareware mod release went on to define that year for me and become 3 of my
list of top favourites.
