According to Greg K, the UESC excavated *something* on the moon and Durandal knew about it, which GK suggested was an influence on Durandal's decision to contact the Pfhor when he "saw them far away not looking our way". What the UESC actually found and how much they actually knew are still open questions AFAIK.
