This thread is being carried over from another thread that has mutated in unexpected ways. Scott Noblitt and I were discussing underappreciated 3rd party scenarios. I think that everyone can agree that Marathon Evil, Tempus Irae and my personal favorite, Rubicon, are on a par with Bungie's original Marathon trilogy. I started the discussion by stating that I felt that Pfh'Joueur is one of the best, most underappreciated scenarios out there. It is a bit easy for the seasoned Marathoner and there is too much ammo, especially on TC, but the textures are breathtaking and the levels are just plain fun to play. Scott agreed, and added that he felt that Operation Vengence is in the same category. I can't disagree with that, although it's a bit more difficult to play. OV does some of the most unique things that I have seen in *any* 3rd party scenario. Scott asked if there are any other 3rd party scenarios that people feel are underappreciated. I would suggest the M1 scenario Marathon Revisited - the author didn't bother to change the terminal text, and he was inappropriately demeaning to women, using pornographic images and "Boobs" instead of Bobs (I'm sure that Shebob would have something to say about that), but the levels are exceptionally well-constructed, most of the sprites have been modified and some new monsters have been added. It's a lot of fun to play. All right, what other scenarios can people recommend. What are some of the best, least-known scenarios out there - the ones that many people don't even know about but that are really must-plays. -Steve |
