Remember the theory I came up with for wasps in that they may actually be Pfhor larvae sent to fight alongside their elders and not a slave race?
Well, in Ain't got Time Pfhor This, it's been theorised before that Durandal sent you there to kill a high ranking pfhor commander's offspring. That would be the fancy egg (an artificial pupa actually) in the radioactive goo altar.
Notice the ring of pupae around the goo column near the level exit and the abundance of wasps on this level? What if the entire map is meant to be a Pfhor nursery, where the eggs, hatchlings and pupae are kept for hatching, raising and incubation into fighters?
We just don't see any eggs although the pupae are usually mistaken for eggs at first due to their shape.
That would also explain why S'pht were stationed there along with troopers at the time they were freed; the children would need to be protected from intruders like Marcus.
Does that idea sound plausible?
