Good point. We know Durandal was delayed in Melancholia. We also know Strauss was experimenting in rampancy, and if Durandal was half as informed about Strauss as he pretended to be, he probably knew more about rampancy's effects than most AIs. Either of those could have been factors in helping Durandal cope with his evolution.

Exercise for the reader: describe Durandal's relationship with the SO in terms of companion-animal therapeutic benefits, including stress reduction and social interaction.
