That or they just wanted Marcus to have a roman bath so they Sprit him Away to Venice before going after the manuscript, but didn't realise the Pfhor had the same idea.

The pfhor do appear to be reptiles with some insectoid features; maybe they are related to alligators or crocodiles despite Plun Darr being light years away from Earth?
