Bonus content since I don’t want to wait sixteen months for Leon’s birthday:
“You’re in a terraformed desert, walking along in the marsh, when all of a sudden you look down...”
“What one?”
“What?”
“What marsh?”
“It doesn’t make any difference what marsh, it’s completely hypothetical.”
“But, what am I doing here?”
“Maybe there’s an invasion. Maybe an insane AI forced you to search for a long-lost race of aliens. Who knows? You look down and see a mothrid. It’s bouncing toward you...”
“Mothrid? What’s that?”
“You know what a squid is?”
“Of course!”
“Same thing.”
“I’ve never seen a squid... But it’s familiar to me, as if it were from an old dream.”
“You reach down and you flip the mothrid over on its head. The mothrid lays on its head, its belly a shapeless dark smudge in the water, thrashing its nine (there are actually 13) tentacles trying to turn itself over, but it can’t. Not without your help. But you’re not helping.”
“What do you mean, I’m not helping?”
“I mean: you’re not helping! It is your nature. Do you feel free?”
