In Response To: Re: An alt. PiD/Marathon player character theory (General-RADIX) : Well, "JJARO WERE AT TAU CETI" according to the message written
The SO was built some 300-odd years before humans ever set foot on Tau Ceti. Unless you want to posit that there's a secret faction of humanity that have had FTL travel all along. The Jjaro were at Earth too, in 1996 and probably earlier and possibly later, and probably somewhere else around the Sol system at some point too. The Jjaro being at Tau Ceti does make an interesting ulterior motive for the colony trip there (and possibly for smuggling the Battleroids aboard). I had an idea for an Eternal prequel of sorts a long time ago, what would have been sort of like Infinity was to Marathon 2, in which the Battleroids on the colony, including the SO in this timeline, are working in various capacities (security, etc) on an excavation project that they're not privy to the details of, which turns out to be excavating a Jjaro AI buried on Tau Ceti. The Pfhor invasion happens, and without the SO on Marathon, Durandal's ploy can't get off the ground, and the Pfhor win. The Jjaro AI, just barely getting activated in time, sends the SO back in time to try again, where alternate versions of the same events happen over and over, sometimes involving going up to Marathon to try to save the day there somehow, meeting Durandal and learning of his plans, but too little too late, always ending in failure. Until the SO finally abandons the colony to begin with, takes the shuttle Miriata up to Marathon to be waiting for the Pfhor there, and willingly walks right into Durandal's game, watching the first Pfhor space-fighter materialize as Durandal rockets the Miriata to distract it, and the SO floats unnoticed in his escape pod up to the door of hangar 7A (port), which by now is oddly familiar to him, as if from a strange dream... but he can't exactly remember.... A part of my kind of wishes that Infinity had gone more that way. Beginning where M1 left off, with you on the Marathon and Durandal gone. I mean, beginning in that timeline; you end up at Lh'owon like you do on "Rise Robot Rise", having been captured and enslaved by the Pfhor. Through many timelines, you end up realizing that Durandal is the one you should be working with, and in the final timeline you have to make sure somehow that he takes you with him when he leaves from Tau Ceti, leaving to the events of Marathon 2.
