Kind of. You can make monsters "blind" so they don't activate when they see the player. You can alter their sight range in dark and light, but I don't know if that even works.

I don't know exactly but it seems like line of sight across visible polygons. So if you're hiding behind a tall platform and a monster is on the other side the monster will see you "over" the platform and start shooting.
