I actually feel the same, but about the M2/Minf "Water" texture sets. I always have been frustrated about the Ming water texture set and always fall back to M2 texture when I can for custom maps (i.e when not using vacbobs...).
(BTW, first message here after 20 years of playing Marathon... Quite funny.)
