Fire! in vacuum?

revisiting the trilogy again, this time reading PS's Tour of Duty + Story page + the original level notes, i found this interesting tidbit: according to the level notes, Fire! Fire! Fire! Fire! Fire! was planned as a vacuum level! can you imagine recharging oxygen while dancing on the lava pits?
