Hah, good work pulling out the direct quotes from Cervantes! I like your reasoning here, it makes sense.

I presume the name is also a reference to the Rush song "Cygnus X-1," wherein the singer has a ship named "Rocinante" - obviously that ship is also named for the horse, but it makes for a nice double-reference.
