I think it's because they look so ridiculous and stupid; everything looks like plastic, the proportions are totally different from before, and they feel nothing like the originals. If they were more like smoothed-out, higher-res versions of the regular ones, I would use them all the time. However, the XBLA Monsters just look stupid, and I'm sure that's the reason why a lot of people hate them.
