The weird shit was what made it worth playing! Morning Star looks fairly conventional; maybe it'll be as layered as our mutually beloved Marathon, but I would not take that bet. For one, nobody has time to write games like that anymore, and two: Greg Kirkpatrick probably doesn't secretly work for Seropian's new company.
