Halo 4, rampancy, and disappointment | ||

For other people who have played it, what's the deal with rampancy? It feels like the concept has been significantly altered since the Marathon days. Then, an AI actually goes _rampant_ and seeks to increase its processing power and influence. Now, it just means they get sick and go crazy. Where did we lose our way? Haven't read the Halo books, so maybe there are more details I'm missing that explain it.
