You mean you didn't get teleported to level 00 ? ;-)
Actually there has been little discussion about this, either on the forum or indeed on the Story page before the era of the forum. This isn't too unexpected since when the Story page came out people knew about M2 and the fact that we had been teleported off the Marathon by Durandal to join him on his search for Lh'owon.
Did Bungie plan it that way? Well here's a piece from an interview with Jason Jones in early 1995. The interview was conducted by Tuncer Deniz for the Official Strategy Guide. One of the many things still not added to the Story page. On my To Do list.
Tuncer Deniz: Are you planning on doing a sequel to Marathon?
Jason Jones: We learned a few things about announcing unfinished products while working on Marathon. Actually, just one thing, and that's not to announce unfinished products. So my answer is "I'm not doing it. Nobody's seen me doing it. I deny everything." On the other hand, there are a lot of things we didn't get to include in Marathon because we ran out of time, and it's tempting to go back and try to do them now that we do have time. And Marathon's ending really does leave a lot of room for something else to happen. I don't know how many people noticed this, but the very last thing that happens to the player in Marathon is that he is teleported off the last level to where? Maybe someday we'll take advantage of this.
