In Response To: Re: forum moritorum est (decline.decipher.decadence) : (actually the ROmanian for "the devil" is "dracul", hence "dracula") More precisely, "dracul" comes from Latin "draco" which means "dragon" or "serpent", and is merely used as an epithet for the devil or Satan, because of the famous serpent character from Genesis. Ironically, the character most people know as "Dracula" was largely inspired by Vlad "the Impaler" III, who was also called "Vlad Dracula" ([son] of the Dragon), because his father Vlad II was called "Vlad Dracul" (the Dragon), and his name in turn derives from a holy order of knights (the Order of the Dragon) whose function was to defend Christendom. So draconic references are certainly not all demonic or Satanic in nature...
