If you are using the "NIBs" version, which is PPC-only, then you will undoubtedly have performance issues. Try the SDL build, which is a UniBin application (link at the bottom). While at least 100 people have complained that its interface is not sufficiently Mac-like (complainers, please elaborate for his pleasure), you might as well get used to it; the developer(s) are in the process of removing NIBs (Mac interface) once and for all.
