In Response To: Bundling AO codes and docs (C Lund) : Let's say that, hypothetically *cough*, I was planning to release a scenario
If you include AlephOne.app, you must include COPYING.txt and COPYING (SDL and SDL_Net).txt. It would be nice if the "Aleph One Website" link were included, although this is not required. If you include AlephOne.exe, you must include COPYING.txt and the whole "Library Licenses" folder. The README would also be nice, but is not required. COPYING.txt / COYPING (SDL...) must be in the same zip file as the Aleph One binary. It is convention to have COPYING.txt in the same folder of the zip file as the binary is in. You also need to upload the latest source code (currently this file http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/marathon/AlephOne-20060701.tar.bz2?download) to the web site where you make Aleph One downloadable from, and include a link to that file wherever there's a link to download the binary. The GPL requirement to include the source code is still satisfied if it's in a separate file, so long as it's on the same site. It would be much cleaner, and easier for users (particularly if your scenario involves net play) if you did not include Aleph One at all. The whole point of the "Unimap" format is to make it easy for users to install and update--both now, when the process is manual, and in the future, when there may be a real installer or refined scenario handling. (you did follow guidelines to the letter, right? especially the scenario MML ;) Then you wouldn't have to mess with Aleph One's documentation or source (or keeping up with our updates, 3 of which have come in the same number of months) at all. The new Tempus Irae comes without Aleph One, and people seem to have figured out how to play it :)
