the f4 key

since I've gotten the new version of A1, I've noticed that pressing the 'f4' key caouses the background explosion noise to sound. I don't think anything else happens, and just because I didn't notice it untill now doesn;t mean it didn;t happen before. But what is it? And what is the f4 key supposed to do, if anything?
BTW, the Aleph One dudes rock, cuz now fullscreen works! I can look at chapter screens!
