: What would the system requirements for this 400 MB release of EMR be? I just
: purchased a used Apple 'Pismo' Powerbook with an onboard 128MB of vRam and
: 256MB of actual RAM. With all those 512x512 textures and music - would my
: dev. machine choak on it?
The Pismo only has 8 MB of VRAM, which isn't even enough to run the standard Marathon 2/Infinity textures without running the landscape textures at half resolution.
EMR's enormous sets of 256x256 textures would be quite a challenge on that machine. The new Aleph One will let you adjust texture quality and other things for low VRAM machines, so you may be able to get a decent framerate out of it, but you may have to drop wall textures down to 64x64 (normal quality, half resolution) just because there are so many of them!
The Pismo was the first Mac to support texture compression, so if I can convince Bill to convert the textures to the new format, that might help too. Most wall textures and landscapes are only 1/8 the size when compressed, so 128x128 could be feasible on that old machine if the new format is used.
