: I really like the idea of making Aleph One a portal for third-party material.
: It would be very cool if you could browse and download from the Lh'owon
: Ar'kives within the app.
I'm always hesitant to tie a program to any particular service; same sort of principle as tying files to programs. Files, programs, services - all separate things, shouldn't care which of the others you use so long as they speak the same language.
Besides, how exactly would you browse and download from the archives anyway? Would it just take you to the site, in-app, or what? Or are you imagining some sort of cooperation from the Archives end, a special Aleph interface to the Fileball database? That sounds like an unfeasibly large amount of work, and to me at least, undesirable for the reasons in the above paragraph.
: At least we should be adult enough to move away from the Marathon 2/Infinity-style main menu :)
I'm actually kind of fond of the main menus. Some pretty graphics get put in there (I've been working on a lot of them this weekend myself). The one improvement I could think to make to main menus is possibly the ability to "pause out" to the main menu to make changes to settings and such; though in that case, you'd probably want to "pause out" to a simple text menu overlaid on the game screen, which could also give you Save and Revert and other such game features that such menus usually feature.
But again, that's a lot of work, particularly (I imagine) the possibility of changing graphics settings while a level is already loaded and on pause, and I don't think anybody hates the existing system enough to justify that much work. But hey, if someone's up to doing it, I'm down for that.
