I think it would have still been an excellent game (come on! it's Bungie) but I have a hunch it wouldn't have been so popular.

Hamish seems to wait until a whole slew of interesting things pop up in the forums and then updates for about a month and stops again.
I don't really blame him. I think he still reads the forums, just doesn't have much to say.
