In Response To: Re: WMaiD Demo: My thoughts (Steve Levinson) I'm glad everyone liked the demo. Some questions that came up in peoples posts are:
-The "finished" message in that dream-related terminal can't be reached, as far as I can tell.
That's correct. It was left in there for anyone willing to poke around. :)
- Why isn't wmaidtheme.mp3 included for title music, converted to AIFF?
For the sake of file download size. The WMaiD Development team's internal builds of the game have the .aif format, which allows menu music to play. REB and I thought it was a little unnecessary in a demo.
-The door and the ladder issue
I thought this was obvious, but I'll explain: There's two ways of gaining access to the lower enginnering area - via transporter, and by pressing a button located on the security alcove (it's in the other crew-quarters hallway) that opens the ladder-area's door.
I loved dropping down the ladder behind an AR bob, and blasting away. I guess most people just use the transporter, and mount a frontal attack.
-Ships Armory ->to->Main deck elevator bug
I didn't realize that the elevator could trap anyone. It was meant to function as a normal lift - but the door at the hallways end seals itself to prevent people running back for the 1x health recharger in the Armory. I'll double check and ensure that the platform is flaged as cannot deactivate externally to avoid it stopping mid-move.
The two platforms to the sickbay/mess hall. "If you jump down, the platforms will start and you'll find yourself going back up to where you came from before you go down again.
Thanks for the kind comments Chris. This bouncing platform issue bugs me too. To have elevators that operated without a call switch, I needed to set them as Pfhor Platforms - I actually modeled them on the central Jailhouse elevator in "The Exit Door Leads in" of Rubicon. I'll change the platforms to have one "down" elevator" and the leave the other alone, with it functioning as an "up" elevator.
As for Steve's assessment:
: ... invincibility comes in handy on TC. I'm curious why there's a mine laying
I replaced the SPNKR weapon in WMaiD with the mine weapon to sidestep a Rubicon hardcoding issue: The missile launcher slot fires three successive projectiles. This isn't controlled by the Physics file - it's the application FUX!'s doing.
If I can find someway to revert this, I'll shuffle the weapon slots to restore the M2/Minf SPNKR.
: I can't imagine not having a SPNKR in WMaiD and the mines don't seem to
Steve, what version of Aleph One were you playing with when you encountered mines that wouldn't detonate? They don't work on hovering (i.e: Jjaro Drone) monsters - but are amazingly fun to play with against Pfhor or Human forces.
: That secret 2X recharger is a nice
Sort of the point. Some people would find an easily accessible 2X wall charger overkill - so I decided to hide it.
I'm not sure I could have picked
The O2 rechargers are there for visual purposes only. Also, any O2 the player is lacking from previous levels can be replenished here. While a destroyed, vaccume version of this level would be interesting - it's not currently on the roster of "things to do".
Regards,
