Help! Aleph One (M1) is too dark

Does anyone else have this problem?
I'm playing M1A1 but it's really too dark. I can sort of get through the levels using the map, but i can't tell what's going on a lot of the time. I'm using a G3 iMac and os 10.2.8. I think this computer has always had a problem making games bright enough, something to do with the ATI Rage graphics card - Deus Ex was too dark at times, but this is ridiculous! Is there something you can change in the OpenGL settings to fix this. The "brightness" setting seems to have little effect
