If I remember right, there are a few lines that mention a statue being destroyed:
....I powder a granite monument in a
soundless flash, showering the grass with molten drops of
its gold inlay, sending smoking chips of stone
skipping into the fog....
This reminds me of King Nebuchadnezzar's vision in the Old Testament of the bible.
In his dream, he saw a statue made of different materials for different parts of the body: A head of gold, a Torso of Iron, Legs of Bronze, Feet of Steel and Clay.
These different parts represented different empires. The Gold head being Babylon, the Iron Torso being what would eventually be the Roman Empire, and so on, and so forth. This being interpreted by the Prophet Daniel.
Just a thought. It came to mind. There may be more that I'm thinking about here, but I can't put it into words.
