I finally pwned this level today (Wednesday). No human casualties. Now I want to see if it can be done without bringing the weapons/ammo from "Neither". Added challenge: use M1A1, so there's no rapid-fire pistol.

(I guess using the time to install Trojan would've been more useful, but whatever. Also, today I beat The Maw for the second time, and for the first time on an Xbox.)

: I find it interesting that Durandal demands to know if Strauss is dead
: rather than alive. Does this mean that Strauss dead is the outcome
: Durandal is hoping for?

I think Durandal's own version of the story is consistent enough: "I wish that I had made him experience the humiliation that he inflicted on me, but he died before I got the chance."*

: Moving along, we find what appears to be an elevator to a bridge that
: can get us into the second pattern buffer room without using the
: teleporter, but there's no way to raise it.

When I played it, it -did- rise up, but just a few feet. At first I thought I'd interrupted it; but apparently it's actually scripted to do that. Not sure what triggers it.

Not that you can't just jump across the gap anyway, without a bridge. The teleporter isn't needed.

: Later on in the level, the almighty Tozt-7 flamethrower is finally
: available. Too bad you get it after you've wasted every enemy on the
: map, except the occasional Wasp.

Unless you already had a TOZT (from "Chicken" or "Neither"). Then you can use it up and replace it as a substitute for reloading.

* Is that the proper way to quote someone with colored text? I don't want to start a precedent.

I tried to do that, but it was out of reach. Is it something that's only possible in M1A1?
