In Response To: 3d-party porting? (Johannes Gunnar) The problem of getting it onto the DS is already solved. You need a GBA flash card, available from your favorite Hong Kong videogame specialist, and a special card to redirect execution into the ARM7 at startup. The need for the special card should be gone within a few weeks, if you're willing to open up your DS and flash the firmware. I think the biggest issue would probably be texture space. The DS has decent poly pushing ability, but Marathon uses a relatively large number of textures. I personally just finished a tool to convert Quake2 MD2 files to run on the DS, so maybe 3D enemies would be a possibility. Marathon also has a ton of enemies - thanks to using sprites, so you'd need to do some really clever LOD stuff or have fewer, tougher, enemies (which would change the feel of the game.) Probably doable. Not by me, though, I have about 10x too many projects already... - eli |
