Sounds strange. Hippos sure do seem like cousins of whales; but the possability that hippos could have evolved from them?....now that seems like stretching it.
If the DNA they analyzed holds a "close relationship", then I still don't get their connection. A "close relationship" just makes them cousins. If the DNA was a near-perfect match, then they might have evolved along the same line; but otherwise I don't find the connection plausible.
Of course, I'm not a marine biologist, I'm just saying what I think.
Maybe they're de-evolved Jjaro.
