Yes, I too remember those old days.

I first played it on my dad's old Gen 1 Powerbook, that big, gray, boxy thing that it was. He worked as the head of the Mac Dept. at the nearby Government science facility and had gotten the demo for M1 online. That's right, online. I remember seeing those two green and silver knuckled hands floating in front of me in the "draw every other line" setting. I couldn't beat the last level in the demo (which I believe was level 4 in the real game) so I went on the old IRC and asked how to beat it, which is where I learned the grenade jumping technique.

I also remember getting the M2 demo that Bungie released at one of the Power Computing seminars at MacWorld Boston. I still have that disc on the shelf somewhere...

Oh... the nostalgia....

wait...epiphane...

Would it be possible, for nostalgia's sake, to post the official demos that Bungie released for all of the M games on the page that has all the full games for download? That'd be wicked awesome. I've got the M2 demo, but don't have the other two. I loved the red marine picture at the end of the M1 demo.
