: OK, I've had a chance to finish going through the second of the two levels.
: First of all, I hate to harp on the texture set again, but the textures
: seem very grainy and liquids are no longer transparent. I initially
: thought that I'd somehow disabled OpenGL but, no, my prefs are as they
: should be. Is there a script update that I need to use these textures?

There seems to be some weirdness in Aleph about transparent media and texture replacement: it doesn't seem to work. For a while I was getting invisible media textures, ie, there were no media surfaces being drawn at all, you couldn't see the water until you were under it. I think that may have had something to do with my redirection of media textures (Bungie put their media textures at apparently random bitmap locations, where the engine is hard-coded to look for them; I put all mine in bitmap slot 10 and told the engine to look there instead via some MML). Either way I managed to fix that problem before Mk I was even out.

But in the process I discovered that AO doesn't seem to like to make translucent media textures when I use MML replacement. I never quite did figure out of it's the AO texture replacement or the redirection to a new bitmap slot. Either way, I tried fixing it by giving the media textures an opacity mask, which would have actually allowed for some really cool effects like sewage that's mostly transparent except for the gunky bits floating on the top, but it seems that AO renders and opacity masks for media surfaces down to 1-bit: a given pixel is either solid opaque, or completely invisible, no gradients possible.

You say "no longer" - have liquids in Eternal thus far been transparent for you? If so, then that's something more to look into. I've not been able to get transparent replacement media textures to work at all.

And thanks a bunch for the feedback!
