In Response To: Re: Found a very ignorant article (Yossarian) : A little bit of both. Though the writer makes some valid points, the reader
: I especially like how the author ties in video games with the serial killer,
: As far as I can tell, this is just abother group of Concerned Parents For
: I get sick of people being afraid of the younger generation, thinking that
: To quote The Who, "the kids are alright". I suppose, but I think that it's issues in life and/or bad parenting that make kids go wacko, not just video games. Video games can teach you how to kill, sure, but how do they INSPIRE you to kill? I'd say its life issues that the kid could be going through. I could be wrong, but I just don't agree with the idea that if you play Wolfenstein, you'll turn into a raving socio-path. As I said before, I believe that this is just a way for some of these wise guys to shift the blame away from their poor parenting skills. If they tried blaming something else that many people were addicted to as well like soccer (which is perhaps the most popular sport in the world), then once that false propaganda sinked into the minds of the readers, that article might be ignored, booed, laughed at, and eventually that corporation might just have to play musical chairs and disappear. They're nailing video games because it is addicting and popular to many people but not big enough to where they can get insulted that well (at least not so easily). But it isn't the idea of whether or not someone condones violence that bothers me much. What really annoys me is these people want others to think that video games are mindless, not productive and make us do worse in everything (often times they say school).
