In Response To: Found a very ignorant article (Anonymous) : Bullshit, or what? A little bit of both. Though the writer makes some valid points, the reader can tell that the piece smacks of alarmism, thus severely weakening the message the author is trying to get across. Are some videogames irrationally violent and can they cause more violent tendencies in children and young adults? Yes and probably. Are video games teaching kids how to drive and fight in wars? I seriously doubt it. Just because little Johnny can grease Jerries in Return to Castle Wolfenstien using his X-Box controller doesn't mean he's ready to grab an M4 and hightail it to Iraq. I especially like how the author ties in video games with the serial killer, though none of his murders were inspired by video game violence, that was a nice touch. As far as I can tell, this is just abother group of Concerned Parents For Fill-in-the-Blank trying to baby-proof the world. Mothers Against Violence? How about Mothers For Parenting? I'm sorry, but if I had a 12 year old kid I'd sure as hell know what games he had and how much he was playing them, same with the movies and TV he'd be watching, not because I'd be a control freak of a dad but because it would be my parental duty. There's a balance to maintain between what content we let our kids see and what content we can trust them to see without being wacko, and the types of people that can't maintain this balance are those railing against violent video games. I get sick of people being afraid of the younger generation, thinking that all high school students are ticking time bombs. To quote The Who, "the kids are alright".
