In Response To: Re: PF Volunteers - Pesticides With Chicken (mattschenk)

: The trick with this level (making it, not playing it) is/was making it
: "fair" and also hard as hell. I will consider the suggestions
: made, such as placing a closer pattern buffer and refining the monster
: count in the PB room, but I WANT this level to be one of the
: hardest...you're assaulting a defensive bunker!

Matt, I understand exactly what you are saying. The name of the level itself should suggest to the player that this is going to be a hard level. However, even given the way I play (I realize my style of play is completely unrealistic so that my opinion should be taken more lightly than others), when you have a level that requires a MULTITUDE of attempts before successfully reaching a PB or recharger, then I think the level has a problem. I can only speak for myself, but I think the level needs to be made a bit more fair so that a player has a more reasonable chance to reach either the PB or the recharger.

: Would it be possible to
: send either you Steve or John newer versions of this level (standalone,
: with added ammo and weapons at start to simulate achievements made in
: prior levels) so that you could play them and give me your opinion?

I am sure Steve and I would be more than happy to play a stand-alone version of the level.

: I can also reduce the width of the lava cracks. I never had monsters fall in,
: but I did have problems with the aliens not crossing and I *think* I fixed
: those problems before releasing the game.

I should mention that when I say that some enemies fell through, I also meant that they got stuck half-way down. They did not make it all the way into the lava, otherwise I assume they would have died. The enemies I remember falling in were still alive and would warble everytime I crossed over them. As for enemies crossing over the gaps, I have never seen any enemies cross over any of the gaps at any time.
