Sticking to •M was a no-brainer for me. In my freelance-days I made a folder called •M on the customers mac and cleared it after the work was done. When internet came peeking I went the easy road and got my beloved 2-character handle pasted allover the place.
When sites became more demanding in input for names (5+characters) and playing Myth in an order (WWC! Birka!) I changed it into Mimer (or •Mimer) in the hope that it sounded a bit masculine (Maimer...). When I met the guys in sweden/finland for real, everybody pronounced it as Meemer (like the Beeper-muppet) ... aargh.
I never even went with my real name 'Jan-Maarten' because I've heard a couple of times irl how americans slaughter the pronounciation. (Jane-Martin? wha? who?). And my freelance's company-name was Jemmet which stuck to my website/e-mail, this is also easy to recognise spam: Hi Jemmet, you might be interested... delete
