Marathon 2 or Halo?

Those Zombies remind me of the Flood zombies. Could it be possible that Marathon was origonally planned to follow a plot similar to Halo (Virus gets released, infecting friend and foe, turning them into savage killer zombies, and leaving you alone and more F**ked than a whore at closing time). Thank God they didn't.
