: I agree with Steve and Mark. This level was a nice change of pace. Not easy,
: but certainly not difficult. The only problem I had with it was NUMEROUS
: game freezes. I highlighted the above passages from Mark's discussion
: because those are the two places where I had all the freezes. The first
: seemed to occur once I reached the doorway in the large outdoor area past
: the grate and just as I would look all the way through the next room. The
: rest occurred near the strong Metalloid on the island. Seems like I would
: be over fighting it with Fists (naturally) and turn to go back to
: recharge, and then BAM, the game would freeze. I can't count the number of
: times that happened. I thought it might be a RAM problem, upped the RAM,
: but that didn't help. I finally had to leave that enemy alive and move on.
Hmm... I've been having random freezing throughout this Volunteers, on several other levels, but it's not nearly as common as it seems to be for you. I did freeze once on this level, but it was immediately after a save - so immediately that it didn't even draw the next frame, it just closed the save dialog and stayed black - so I was able to pick up right where I left off. No such luck on Medatron :/
I upgraded to Panther over the weekend, and while it doesn't seem to have affected stability, it's become a bit choppy despite being run on a computer that's conservatively 10 times faster than the state of the art at Infinity's release. It also displays momentary artifacts that look like faint, single-pixel horizontal lines all over the image, as if the texture mapping code was malfunctioning (fortunately this is pretty hard to notice in practice).
