I read all three of the novels last week, and I think that for what they are they were fun reads. I'm not going to say they were sci-fi classics or pieces of garbage, and definitely not, as the long gone originiator of this thread thought, like, a ripoff.
If you think about it, having to write an entire novel and make it fit into a fictional universe someone else created probably isn't the easiest thing to do for some authors, especially when you know your work is going to be considered "background" to a far more popular video game. Still, I think the books are a good medium to bring the Haloverse to others who otherwise wouldn't play the game...
