In Response To: Vacuum Levels (Steve Levinson) : If I could redesign the game
One possibility is used in a lot of games to simulate drowning while swimming: Once you run out of air, your health begins to decrease. This gives you a few extra seconds that can make the difference between life and death, but still imposes a severe penalty for wasting time. This would be less of a danger in Marathon than other games since you can recover an unlimited amount of health from a charger panel, but I'm still surprised that a cybernetically enhanced soldier in top physical condition can't hold his breath for 10 lousy seconds...
