This is a real game. The original Marathon was released in 1994, Marathon 2:Durandal was in 1996, and Marathon:Infinity was in 1997. Also, the games themselves are Mac-only, but the open source version of Marathon, Aleph One, works with Windows, Linux, and some other systems. Also, you'll find A LOT of 3rd party maps for Marathon, as Bungie released Forge and Anvil with Marathon:Infinity, the two mapmaking tools.

Actually, Marathon 2:Durandal was released for the PC. But I don't know what type of computer you're using.
