New Cool OSX AO Stuff

Well, we're allowed to tell you all now, aparently, and since noone else has yet, I will. :D

There's a new OSX build available here:

http://astrange.ithinksw.net/AlephOne.dmg

And probably here as well:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/marathon/

And maybe, maybe here:

http://source.bungie.org

What's so good about it, you ask? How about Lua scripting support, star-topology networking support, netmic compression, and much other stuff? Quoth Mr Strange:

"

The build features:

* A new scripting system based on the language Lua (www.lua.org). It
already supports most Pfhortran features. Pfhortran will remain in the
builds, but is deprecated.
* A new star-topology multiplayer system. We have been able to play
7-player games across the US with good results using this.
* The network microphone is now compressed using the open-source codex
Speex (www.speex.org).
* The HUD can now be drawn in OpenGL without "Pipe 2D Graphics through
OpenGL", but you will need to edit the preferences file to enable it
(add 3032 to "ogl_flags" in "graphics").
* OpenGL now supports anisotropic rendering, but you will also need to
edit the preferences to use it (change "anisotropy_level" in "graphics"
to 16.0).

"

Interesting, eh? Now, if I had OSX, I think I'd be jumping like a happy thing right about now, but I'll just have to be moderately gleeful that there's a prospect of this getting to the OS9 builds. : )

Oh, and in case you didn't know, there's a "Aleph One" AIM chatroom designed specifically for bringing players together, and any questions about the new networking arrangements can be answered here.

Have fun, kiddies. :D
