: SOLVED. That isolated area is reached from the final room. They did some
: tricksy work with polygons in there, and there is a wee space right a bit
: from the raised platform and up about halfway to the north wall, that will
: teleport you in there!

: figure it out - just now in preparing my writeup for Med Lab. I figured I
: must have been blasted up onto the platform, but when I finally got up
: onto it, I found that that was not the case. That is where you return to
: though, after picking up a 3x recharge canister and a bunch of ammo in the
: secret area, which is really nice :).
I guess we gotta make an updated spoiler guide now (ToD itself I guess), 'cuz the walkthrough you guys gave me doesn't mention it.
