I'm fairly sure that while Nova ships don't generally have armor regen (except maybe the Polaris), the Nova engine does allow for it, and it probably has been programmed into at least one of the EVO ports.

You may be thinking of how shields now recharge without needing armor to be fully restored, a default that I think isn't tweakable, which I suppose technically means it's more invulnerable.
