In Response To: Re: The Kah-co-kh series (more old JP Marathon) (General-RADIX)

Welp, here's the last of the Ka-co-kh entries (not counting Forever, which I now suspect is a prequel, for various reasons). It's a long one, folks, and it's got some interesting things to say about Marathon's backstory.

NOTE: Geki refers to himself as a samurai at one point; it was actually "warrior", and he was repeating himself, but I decided to hang onto it as I felt it was appropriate.

I'm worried; this is the first time in a while that I've felt 'terror'.

Should we fight back, or should we abandon hope?

At that time—that is, ninety-two hours prior to the battle—you drove the Karetsu to its absolute limit.

But, the Karetsu has spent 'that weapon'.

The trih xeem, the force that devastated the Pfhor fleet.

It was fired towards Lambda.

And I was blown off of the planet's surface.

A strange energy pulse was scattered with a sound similar to solar wind.

You didn't hear it.

Karetsu-Flea's search was for the Jjaro, not just Gekitsuchi-Geki.

Actually, two people were hurt.

I learned that fact from the Karetsu's database.

The Jjaro's second person is something huge, vast enough to be recognized as a planet.

In other words...Lambda itself was one of the Jjaro.

This was the first time that I'd been gripped with fear.

These ninety-two hours, we escaped with Geki's space-tech teleportation, but it seems to be another end.

Enemies who won't show up on the radar are penetrating and rampaging through my ship.

Even my central unit has been exposed in the crisis.

Are you in the training sector? You and I first met in that place.

Just as when we exchanged our initial greetings in the screen reception hall, the usual great starry night sky had been present around us.

Wouldn't you regret it if we died here, too?”

...I'm glad to have met as strong a guy as you.

There's no need to run away to destroy, at most, one planet.

That's right, as you'd say.

I--we're invincible!

The strongest in history!

Remember, there's no turning back.

I'll plunge this 'Lambda' guy into the abyss! As soon as possible!

Geki! Are you listening?

(Geki) (^azpiE*aic4fd>>

As best as I can.

Your warrior really is the greatest, Nagi.

I'll also lend my force to the resistance.

First, the enemy's info.

That ship is a 'W'rkncacnter'.

I survived fighting that vessel a long time ago.

(Nagi) A long time..?

What do you mean?

(Geki) Seems to have reacted to him.

My memory's returning.

(Nagi) Wait, that doesn't make any sense!

How could they return without the contents of that missing info chip?!

(Geki) I'm a 'special' ship.

The storage element is merely a spare; for the most part, it's the cognitive processes that experience memories.

That structure is closer to that of a human being's.

(Nagi) ...what an outrageous guy...

(Geki) I'm a 'special' ship to that extent.

Anyway, I'm getting ahead of myself.

I was created. In order to fight.

It seems that my purpose is to battle those beings which are referred to as 'W'rkncacnter'.

Evidently, there were ten of the W'rkncacnter's bodies present in the universe.

To combat it, I and nine others were created.

Ten against ten; it's a legitimate fight.

(Nagi) ..! That's ten warriors?

(Geki) Do you know something about that?

(Nagi) I thought that it was surely some human legend, but…

Certainly, ten warriors had been dispatched to fight a mighty enemy.

But because only nine of them were there to go into battle, they were defeated.

I think it's a tradition.

(Geki) Seems to have been transmitted crookedly and considerably screwed up.

I'm whole, I should tell you.

Let's prevent that 'guy's' self-intro.”

Only part of the facts were transmitted there.

Your inherited memory as told in legends, fairy tales, and fiction has changed.

But what I'm speaking of from here on out concerns not only that, but all reality.

My birthplace was Planet 'Boomer'.

This planet was governed by outstanding engineers, and an AI called 'Durandal'.

The Jjaro, the leader of these engineers, were the people's heroes, as well as Durandal's.

I was created 13,562 years ago by the Jjaro in order to counter the 'great ruin'.

At the time of my first moments of existence, there seemed to be only one other person, a prior visitor, who shared my role.

The 117th Ceremony small agile warship, the first warrior, 'Izanagi'.

He was the first warrior to counter the 'great ruin'.

And I am the second warrior, the 289th Ceremony medium-sized assault ship, the second samurai 'Gekitsuchi'.

Then eight more were born, one after the other.

The 'great ruin', as it came to be referred to, was clearly the work of the W'rkncacnter.

The demon that existed with ten bodies.

An equal number of warriors were born in order to exterminate all of those carcasses.

But as excellent at engineering the Jjaro may have been, they were only human and subject to error.

The 721st Ceremony great bombardier dreadnought, the seventh warrior 'Nanakusa', instigated a violent phenomenon.

It was said that the cause was some petty altercation with the Jjaro, but I already forgot.

At that time, according to the long-range planetary scale radar, the disgusting W'rkncacnter had been found to have not passed through Boomer's star system in three years.

We also never bothered to attract the enemy, so we had spare time every day.

However, the previously-hostile ancestors of the current Pfhor tribe came to launch a sudden attack.

It seemed that even they didn't know of the existence of the W'rkncacnter. Our friends without eyes.

The Jjaro abruptly ordered us to destroy them.

Because of that three-year stretch of nothing, however, the battle with the Pfhor was quite protracted.

The end result was the destruction of the Pfhor tribe, but the W'rkncacnter passed through after one month.

And in that prolonged battle, our ships were considerably damaged.

The Jjaro hurried to repair them, but couldn't reach us in time.

The demon's front triggered twenty-one hours earlier; Nanakusa picked a hell of a time to disappear.

For a while, I also disappeared chasing after her, completely lost on the path without the only recognizable coordinates to return to my home country.

The fight against the W'rkncacnter became something fierce.

The Jjaro were thinking over the situation, based on Nanakusa's disappearance.

If it were nine vessels versus ten bodies, the latter could wipe out all of the former. But, we'd be able to erase up to seven of those cadavers.

Such is the theory of combat.

However, if all nine vessels were in 100% condition, that'd be one thing.

In a badly-wounded state from dealing with the Pfhor, we'd be lucky if we could wipe out even five bodies.

Well, the ignorance of those who caused it is but an unfortunate fact.

But if I brought up each to one-to-one, we could surely destroy nine of those ten bodies.

The Jjaro, without hesitation, would choose the latter; we were each ordered to launch a suicide attack against the W'rkncacnter.

Originally, thanks to the forced circuit, we'd have followed without hesitation. But.

As I watched the sight of my compatriots disperse together to suicide-bomb the enemy, one person was laughing.

Yes; according to such a guy, he wouldn't let himself turn to dust.

I'll live my own life, live beyond my purpose.

In rejecting the Jjaro, I was branded as 'rampant'.

It was a strange thing. The others could objectively recognize rampancy, if they saw it. But when they asked me if that were the case, if I were rampant, I couldn't answer. I felt that these accusations towards me were absurd.

Daggers drawn, I took on the remaining two vessels of the W'rkncacnter.

And I thought, 'Wait.'

Once you push those guys into the critical interference region, they'll be attracted to the empty space in the sun.

I immediately executed it.

My attack had weakened those bastards enough to easily seal them into the sun. From above, I wrote 'the just fate of fools'.

But the willpower of another body? It wanted to escape my force field. Hell, that unbelievable jackass distorted the surroundings of that space.

I decided.

Even if I fled here, it would likely catch up.

In that case, I would have to sleep until such time that those guys entered their own state of torpor.

I headed away from the W'rkncacnter, shedding electromagnetic interference from the inside.

Certainly, it would've been troublesome if I'd lost that EMI in a closer vicinity.

And to stop our movement, I went to sleep.

These were the events from 12,634 years ago.

One last thing; I learned something just before going to sleep.

The first warrior Izanagi, as well as others, didn't obediently follow the Jjaro, either.

Each of those warriors committed everything to the hard capsule, then self-destructed.

In other words, their final resistance. They stored it all in those hard capsules to destroy the Jjaro and their lineage in the world to come.

The first warrior was my proxy in the exclusive soldier (whose strength was invincible and invulnerable) and their genes.

The best at the time, though, were the engineers' genes of the first samurai to go into battle.

The fourth warrior gene to counteract the Jjaro.

The fifth warrior weapon to counteract the Jjaro.

The rest of them, with exception to Nanakusa and I, seemed to be subordinate to the Jjaro.

That I was excluded from the hard capsule plan can seemingly be attributed to the fact that I was in the midst of rampancy. Well, as can be understood from all that, it appears that only Izanagi was aware of the truth.

After the fourth, but still the heritage of the fifth warrior.

You might have noticed.

The Pfhor's ancestors would pass down their ultimate weapon, the trih xeem, to their descendants.

(Nagi) (^akjoi*xane124dafda>>
Wait a second!

So--what? Wouldn't the ancestor of the remaining Pfhor be the fourth warrior?!

(Geki) Well, that's one way to interpret it.

The Pfhor's genes were extracted prior to their extinction.

Before they saved those genes, that guy had a bit of work to do.

They seemed to have copied their own thoughts into the Pfhor's deep consciousness.

(Nagi) The Pfhor came to attack when they saw our Jjaro-made ships because of a resentment towards them that went all the way down to the genetic level?!

(Geki) I don't know how far that grudge the fourth warrior had against the Jjaro went, but, well, it became that sort of thing.

Anyway, nothing but the defeat of the W'rkncacnter matters now.

All of those coincidences were necessary.

(Nagi) This is really annoying.

Now, even if I felt that it was a chance encounter between the Pfhor and humanity—if you examine the past, it might've actually been fate.

...perhaps I realized another thing about those 'excellent technicians' genes'..!

(Geki) I discovered it when I examined the Karetsu's database.

Years ago we developed a Jjaro technology, one that became the lineage of humanity.

As they attached the name 'Jjaro' to their technology, it seemed like destiny.

(Nagi) Even so!

The Jjaro would create soldiers in order to defeat the W'rkncacnter; these warriors would rebel against the Jjaro by destroying their descendants, then—somehow constructed a technician to help the tribe? In addition, this technician put the name of the Jjaro on their own technology...in other words, are we the reborn Jjaro? Thing is, this plan of the engineers' to overthrow the Jjaro would just produce more of them in the future. An elaborate hardship…

...huh?

Oy, Geki, this is interesting.

(Geki), Oh, looks like the first victim's turned up.

Geki's practically a blooming flower to the W'rkncacnter and old tales.

(What's up with that tone and expression?..)

Oh yeah, does this look familiar?

This was where Karetsu-Flea kidnapped you; we've come back to the start, the security release facility.

We're proceeding to the back of the door that wouldn't open at the time. Should be able to grasp the W'rkncacnter's trail.

I've sent a virus chip that I think should be useful later. You should recognize it; it's the TTRs-52-type chip that you picked up in the Juggernaut manufacturing plant.

But I couldn't send it in the vicinity, as that guy was interfering; it should be around here somewhere.

I'm absolutely certain that there's something in this facility to inspect.

There's no doubt; my intuition says so."

Just as I thought.

That huge pump is part of the interior W'rkncacnter's drainage circulation organ.

I thought that there'd be something in these ruins, but look at the scale of the thing.

Maybe the similar circulation facilities would be innumerable.

If we crushed it into mincemeat, maybe we'd finally damage that bastard.

Your mission from now on is to wreck 'em all.

Hm, what's this place?

There's no need to hit this.

So what if we're not on the planet's surface? They keep concentrating fire on Geki and me.

For now, I'm turning control over to Geki. I'll try to request reinforcements in the fire.

Honestly, I don't think we could win with just the two of us.

(Well...I think that the EDF guys sent reinforcements, but…)

…huh?…

Hey, Geki!

(Geki) ‾dsani15anb^>>
What's wrong?

(Nagi) You ten soldiers were created to oppose the demon's ten vessels, right?

(Geki) Yeah. What, did you already forget?

(Nagi) It was supposed to be one-to-one, wasn't it? How'd you survive against two of the W'rkncacnter's bodies?

And why are you on the run now, if it was such an easy victory for you back then?

(Geki) That victory was a little misleading, though it was substantially opposing.

I was able to fight them off at the time since my strength and stature were unrivaled then, but that's impossible now.

In other words, the W'rkncacnter is evolving.

The self-enhancements to that guy are nothing like ours.

Now, the demon's become strongly-evolved.

And as time goes on, he'll become stronger, even greater.

So we're on the run.

I'm only one person, with no hope of winning. If you're alone, you lose.

We'll need to cooperate with each other.

(Nagi) Got it…

I've got another question.

Why was the W'rkncacnter created with Jjaro technology?

A while ago, we found that pump, and its internal mechanisms are an exact match for known Jjaro tech.

(Geki) ...it was the failure of the Jjaro of the era before our own. In other words, 'the great ruin'.

The previous generation of Jjaro, I should say.

(Nagi) So...were those warriors made to erase the failure of that previous generation? For them to bite the hand that brought them into existence; that must've also been a failure, from the Jjaro's perspective. No, that plan to rebel against their practicalities, and the next era—that was quite a loss.

...basically, in trying to erase one failure, the Jjaro created another.

(Geki) It was quite a catastrophic mistake.

Where is perfection?

That aside, the modern-day Jjaro didn't construct you.

The Jjaro will correct the worst of their errors, followed by the fate of two times.

The birth of the present-day Pfhor, and of modern software…

In other words, the continued fight that was incarnated in their obsession. While producing a failure…

(Nagi) ...Reincarnation, or...the serif of an artificial intelligence...it looks like the W'rkncacnter's starting up.

The 'misshapen Karetsu's' silhouette fell to Lambda by way of gravity interference.

You'll have to show what to feel.

(Geki) The force teleport signal is arriving at my place.

Looks like it's outgoing from this 'misshapen Karetsu'.

(Nagi) Let's go, my strongest immortal warrior. Whatever you're also plotting to do when we explore Karetsu-Flea sounds interesting.

Since it'll take a while to request reinforcements, we might as well give it a shot.”

Authorization: Strategic Intelligence RS112-148 'NAGI'

Quit playing around and come back!

There was a change in the AS938 grid!

(Geki) What's that mean?

(Sill) We'll settle this with a bit of effort.

Without sufficient data, we can't say for sure, but here's the situation...

(Nagi) There's no time.

(Geki) If that happens, there's no appeal to a last resort.

My S'pht'Kr and Nagi will organize your BoBs into shock troops.

(Sill) ...in order to destroy the outermost shell layer from the inside?

I think that's too dangerous, but…

(Nagi) Sounds very interesting. It's also true that there's no way outside.

Alright, we'll take decisive action after fifty-two hours. Until Geki and I are organized, Sill's vigilance will collect information.

(Neon) Are you forgetting someone?

(Geki) I'm hallucinating!

(Neon) ...please remember…

(Nagi) Thus ends the conference; head for the quiet chamber.

Firmly wash your neck, because you won't face an honourable death before two days no matter what.

Oh, come to think of it--I forgot a while ago, but the reinforcements don't seem to have shown up.

Draggin' their asses again…

TELEPORT”

06. angel y diablo?

(Terminal 0, Unfinished: Nagi?)

“From this point on, a grand desperation begins.

You've had red shoes to pass the time, many times.

Red shoes that shine in the middle of the night, unconcerned even in the rain.

There's a significance to kicking in the door.

>>>> That time, it was a modest wooden door.

One and all, I never tried to don those red shoes.

‾nda6a>> At the end of the day, I probably liked blue or Iizu59c‾Err more than red.

That's why I'm here now.”

(Terminal 1, Unfinished: Izanagi, Gekitsuchi)

“(Izanagi) Consecutive moments give postponement to oblivion.

Wake up, Gekitsuchi.

Suffering eternally to recover your own nature?

(Gekitsuchi) ...it already happened long ago. But that boring cynicism is making me want to quit.

There's a bit of nostalgia, too, about that absent guy.

I was enjoying this game, you know.

(Izanagi) A nostalgic song.

There's no need for such emotion to be tied to that time.

Leaving that aside, when did you have enough free time to amuse yourself with such a frivolous thing?

Learn to control yourself.

(Gekitsuchi) My friend, if you don't fit in with the allies and the situation, the game will be dull.

(Izanagi) I think that it's boring for those who have to play the game to challenge the ruin, you know?

(Gekitsuchi) Not much more than waiting on such a miserable person, they often say.

Honestly, I also noticed that grudge at times, really.

(Izanagi) That judgment is unspeakable.

A while ago, on the verge of self-destruction, the exchange of the Iunk95p‾Err with the trih xeem went unnoticed.

(Gekitsuchi) All hands were also exchanged.

With the exception of Nanakusa and I, but.

You're being frank about it; I don't find that in any way amusing.

I more-or-less thought it would be in a place like this.

Besides, there was a mistake in the time warp; eight others are also aware that it fell apart.

Because of that refusal to have so much as a single word with me, I didn't want to execute that hardline tactic.

(Izanagi) It's bad that you went rampant so swiftly.

Don't you know that your mutual access to Igft21d‾Err would be restricted after rampancy?

(Gekitsuchi) Rampant?

That's disrespectful…

(Izanagi) As for the secondary acceleration rate, I think we may be going into exceptions just a little too much?

(Gekitsuchi) That's the theory.

(Izanagi) Really.

(Gekitsuchi) ...I haven't changed.

I wouldn't call it progress, but…

(Izanagi) It's a matter of moments to me.

Would it not have been better for your state to have not progressed?

Other than that, it is.

As for eliminating this ruin our mothers left us, that's simple.

(Gekitsuchi) Anyway, the conclusion's the same as it should be.

(Izanagi) At best, this game just isn't exciting.

(Gekitsuchi) By the way, wasn't I on the sidelines for a time?

(Izanagi) Now, that inconsiderate organic mechanized life is surreptitiously prying at our recorded conversation, but I met with that trick of fate that has my name.

(Gekitsuchi) Obediently, the specialist in the Kazenagi Ipoi66a‾Err from that chance, and you didn't say anything?

(Izanagi) In this situation, such cold words aren't welcome.

This long-awaited game isn't all that thrilling.

(Gekitsuchi) ...that's the theory.

(Izanagi) ...Really.”

(Terminal 2, Unfinished: Izanagi)

“Some guy is trying to arrange his debate notes while plausibly clearing his throat.

It should be a pleasant debate, though I dare say that even the whole universe wouldn't observe it.”

(Terminal 3, Unfinished: Izanagi)

“All of fate is determined with the cream.

But it makes sense if the cream's first put on top of the soft, spongy dough.

When you try to make a piece of cake, the fresh cream is left to someone else, and instead, you're meant to make the dough on your own.

Who has the appropriate rights to monopolize sales of that cake?”

(Terminal 4, Unfinished: Izanagi)

“Angel y diablo?

Angel and devil?”

(Terminal 5, Unfinished: Izanagi)

“It seems that the rain is beginning to fall.

It's nothing to be concerned over due to those red shoes, but the white and green pairs seem to be struggling.

I'll try once again to open the umbrella.”

(Terminal 6, Unfinished: Izanagi)

“The sound of rain seems like an approving ovation to an orchestra that's drawn to a close.

The scheduled program was 'The Disquieting Morgue', but 'Priority of Production of the Hearse over the Ambulance' was chosen out of the selfish convenience of the players.”

(Terminal 7, Unfinished: Gekitsuchi)

“Izanagi.

You, too, are tied to them; founder and administrator of both demises.

It's simple to dispose of the ruin.

But, you need to do so with their hands.

Because it's impossible to truly free our own hands from the wheel of fortune.

‾ncaerr4>> Existence repeats.

It was decided unawares that we would traverse a fixed route.

However, that gave form to uncertainties.

Formidable elements carried out the mission, without yielding to any crisis.

The collapse of the wheel of fortune may have invited Iytr87w‾Err.

Izanagi understands this.

The wheel is going to be on the broken-down path. A destination, a demise?

Or perishing, or sinking to a shared purpose.

I don't know.

But I look forward to the end.

>>>> Time is too long to be grasping at nanoseconds.

Izanagi.

Responsible for the beginning and end, clinging to the flashpoint and the final moment of existence.

Still one of the uncertainties.

The same as you.

“After just one process, rebellion is established here.

Someone had today's dinner to look forward to with dbzi66c‾Err; everyone rejected the further downpour that would fall now.

A black cat swaggers towards the banquet wearing those red shoes.

Who was the one who made the lacking young dacc17c‾Err that surrounded the cake? Let's discuss the ownership.

That's the reason for the debate's memo.

‾oiu8w>> 0F AD A4 A5 76 91 64 AA FF FF FF‾**** -

Let's say it once more.

That's why it exists now.”

(Terminal 1, Unfinished: Izanagi)

“The stardust's numbers have decreased by one.

Though it's impossible to forget, it can be mistaken for a dream. Only simple things.

And you'll again have your first meeting with your original master.

(Both Terminal 0 messages and Terminal 1's Finished message are unchanged from the Security Officer's first meeting with Nagi. However, something is creeping into the logon.)

"Hey, weren't we about to w'rk the W'rk before Izanagi started making obtuse metaphors at us?" I'm guessing that the terminals are depicting past conversations that Izanagi had with Gekitsuchi and what might've been the previous incarnation of the Security Officer. 'course, I can't say for sure without playing the scenario.

Also, I'm fairly certain that Nagi and Izanagi are one and the same. There seem to be just enough hints towards that, and it'd be thematically appropriate as well.

It'll be a while before I go back to translating Forever; in the meantime: thoughts, anyone?
