Most of the switches on that map cause something in sight of them to open, and then you have to hit the switch again once it's open to stop it from closing again.
If I'm thinking of the place that you're stuck, there's an ordinary door next to the big "stuck" door (or possibly in a hallway right next to that room, but still in line with the "stuck" door), and a switch in another room nearby that opens that ordinary door.
