It is mostly useless in the ship on lower difficulties. I had to look up my Halo Anniversary guide to know that you need to keep the sniper with you on Legendary to stand a chance.
A good trick is to jump above the ridge just before the last basin before the lift area while standing on a rock and snipe most of the covenant from there to preserve the marines, then use the active camo once all covies are dead to kill the first few in the lift area, then use the shade to deal with most waves and retreat and snipe if things get hairy.
there are sniper ammo caches throughout the level in case you need more but they aren't unlimited like in DNF. (then again, DNF needed infinite crates due to irritating combat in some levels including bosses) In the remake, it also helps to use the grunt funeral skull if you got the special edition on Halo CEA. I don't know if you need a special edition of MCC to get it in that, but my version has it in both 1 and 2 Anniversary.
