you should try Final Fantasy VII (for the original PlayStation!). it's the only game story i found that comes close to Marathon's. full of subplots, surreal at moments, sci-fi mixed with new-agey (in a good sense, if that is even possible) fantasy. and it has the best sad moment in any videogame, ever. have to get used to the turn-based gameplay, though, which can be difficult for some.
