I've almost certainly said this already, but my main beef with M1 was how cramped the hallways were. Sure, maybe they added to the immersion, but gameplay wise it ends with you just grinding through a line of enemies one at a time while occasional dodging a staff bolt. The best parts of M1 in my opinion were those occasion times where you really get an open environment and a good group of enemies where you can dodge and strafe and actually get creative with your combat, like on G4 Sunbathing and that first room outside the spawn on Try Again.
